Professor Maria Luisa Brandi is a renowned endocrinologist who has made significant contributions to the understanding and treatment of bone and mineral disorders. She spent about 5 years at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. She was a Full Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Florence until 2020.
Currently, she is a Professor of Endocrinology at the Vita-Salute University at San Raffaele, Milan, Italy and an International Visiting Professor at McMaster University in Toronto, Canada. She is also the President of FIRMO Foundation, a non-profit research organization dedicated to skeletal health.
Professor Brandi has published over 800 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 250 chapters in books. She is well-recognized worldwide for her novel cellular models used in endocrine research. She has also contributed to the preparation of clinical guidelines for bone and mineral metabolism which are widely used by clinicians worldwide. Since 2020, she has been serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal on Fragility Fractures. Additionally, she is a member of the Board and Scientific Committee of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) and General Secretary of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO).
