Doctor Coleridge Smith is currently Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the British Vein Institute. He is acknowledged as an international authority and expert in venous disease, including the management of vein problems using ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and other modern methods of vein ablation.
Doctor Philip graduated from Oxford University and St Thomas’ Hospital London Medical Schools in 1977. For 6 months, he served as House Surgeon to Mr. MV Braimbridge and Mr. BT Williams in St. Thomas.

He then served as Senior House Officer in Orthopedic Surgery in Hammersmith Hospital for 7 months. He was then appointed as Surgical Registrar in Royal Free Hospital and School of Medicine
and Barnet General Hospital. For 17 years after that, he was appointed as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery of University College London Medical School as well as Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Medical Director in the British Vein Institute.
He pioneered the introduction of duplex ultrasonography in the clinical
investigation of venous disease in the UK. He is currently President of the British Association of Sclerotherapists and is acknowledged as an international authority and expert in venous disease including treatment of venous diseases using minimally invasive methods and has pioneered the introduction of ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy into the UK. Throughout his career, he has treated several thousand patients using injection techniques. He is well known for his many publications on venous disease.
In addition, he became Editor in Chief of Phlebology and then editor of the European Journal for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery with responsibility
for papers on venous disease. Doctor Philip has 249 publications.
