Dr. Robert Echenberg is a highly accomplished Consultant physician in the field of Obstetrics and Gyneclogy. He has been actively advocating to improve care access in all fields of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Echenberg's interest in chronic pain sparked in 2001 when he developed a hospital-based program aimed at non-surgical approaches to treating chronic pelvic pain. This interest led him to join the International Association for the Study of Pain, immerse himself in pain-related scientific journals, and actively engage with organizations such as the International Pelvic Pain Society.
In 2006, Dr. Echenberg established one of the first privately owned medical practices specializing in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic pelvic, genital, and sexual pain disorders. Individuals from around the world suffering from persistent pain in the pelvic region reach out to him for help. Driven by evidence-based protocols and a bio-psychosocial non-surgical approach rooted in neuroscience, he has successfully treated over 2000 patients from various states in the U.S. and multiple countries worldwide. His expertise encompasses a wide range of conditions, including Interstitial Cystitis, Pudendal and other pelvic Neuralgias, Vulvodynia, Vestibulodynia, and Hypertonic Pelvic Floor Dysfunction.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Echenberg has shared his knowledge internationally through speaking engagements and has co-authored the book "Secret Suffering: How Women's Sexual and Pelvic Pain Affects their Relationship." Additionally, he has been interviewed on various media platforms and participated in medical associations such as the Interstitial Cystitis Association and the National Vulvodynia Association.
Driven by his passion for patient advocacy and education, Dr. Echenberg played a pivotal role in establishing the Alliance for Pelvic Pain, organizing national patient weekend retreats, and contributing to the creation of the first international non-profit organization aiming to raise awareness and education for chronic pelvic pain. Dr. Echenberg strongly believes that by implementing institutional changes in medical education and raising awareness, earlier diagnosis and prevention of end-stage chronic pelvic pain syndromes can be achieved.
Acknowledging the lack of attention given to persistent genital pain by the healthcare systems worldwide, Dr. Echenberg's current goal is to share his decades of clinical experience and knowledge to help the estimated 30 million American women suffering from these disorders. He now focuses on training other practitioners to handle office-based treatments while devoting more time to telehealth and tele-education for sufferers across the globe.
