Doctor Jaimin Patel is an Honorary consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at University Hospitals Birmingham, UK. He received his Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in 2015. He is part of Perioperative, Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Trauma Trials (PACCT) group. He has translational research interests in the field of anaesthesia, peri-operative and critical care medicine.
Dr. Jaimin Patel completed his medical training at the University of Birmingham, UK in 2004. After initial training and successful completion of his post-graduate exams in his chosen specialty of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, Dr. Jaimin entered into clinical research.
Currently and since 2017, Dr. Jaimin is an Honorary Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine and a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) senior lecturer at University Hospitals Birmingham, Birmingham, UK.
Dr. Jaimin’s Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) investigated the effects of sepsis and ageing on neutrophil function and the role Statins have in modulating neutrophil responses. The thesis was conferred in 2015 and the results have been presented nationally at the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia’s Annual Scientific Meeting.
In 2016, he was awarded the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Lectureship in Anaesthesia and Intensive care medicine at the University of Birmingham in UK as part of the Perioperative, Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Trauma Trials (PACCT) group.
Afterwards in 2018, Dr. Jaimin was awarded the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN) Research Scholar fellowship.
Dr. Jaimin has translational research interests in peri-operative and intensive care medicine, with a focus on improving the outcomes for patients. His main research focuses on the use of novel therapies to modulate the innate response to inflammation and sepsis.
Dr. Jaimin is passionate about increasing access to research for trainees in anaesthesia. As such, he was a co-founder of the West-Midlands Trainee Research in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care network and has recently been appointed to vice-chair of the national trainee research collaborative, Research and Audit Federation of Trainees (RAFT).
