Dr Ajay Vora is currently an Honorary Professor of Paediatric Haematology at the University of Sheffield and a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, UK. He is also the Chief Investigator of UK and International clinical trials in Childhood Leukaemia, Stem Cell Transplantation and CART cell therapy.
Professor Ajay Vora graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Bombay University in 1982, after which he received a Doctorate of Medicine from the same University in 1986. This was followed by a number of certifications including MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, UK) in 1989, Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists, UK in June 1991, Fellowship of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK in 1997, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists, UK in 1999.
Dr Vora was previously a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist at Sheffield Children's Hospital and was then appointed Professor of Paediatric Haematology at the University of Sheffield. He is currently a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital since 2017. His experience extends to more than 40 years.
Dr Vora has a special interest in childhood leukaemia and cord blood transplantation. He is chair of the UK NCRI childhood leukaemia sub-group and I-BFM ALL committee. He is the chief investigator of the current and previous front-line childhood and infant ALL clinical trials and is involved with several research projects in this area. Until March 2017, he was the programme director of the Trent Regional Paediatric Haemopoietic Stem Cell transplant service.
Dr Vora has taken a leading role in clinical trials in childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and haemopoietic stem cell transplantation nationally and internationally. He is the Chief Investigator of several national and international phase 3 clinical trials and the Principal Investigator of over 20 trials.
His clinical research consists of co-authoring 157 peer-reviewed articles and participating in 4 clinical trials in the past 15 years. He is also an editor of a book on childhood ALL.
