Doctor Al-Abadi had extensive experience in pediatrics and Rheumatology. He underwent training in both Birmingham Children's Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital. His experience spans across the wide spectrum of pediatric rheumatology including rare childhood rheumatic conditions. And he is particularly interested in Autoinflammatory (Periodic Fever) syndromes and Behcet's disease. He is the current educational lead for national and international trainees hosted by the Rheumatology department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
He has been awarded a 3-year Clinical Trials Scholarship and He is an Honorary Research Fellow, Institute of Applied Health Research, College of Medical and Dental Sciences, University of Birmingham. Also, He is the principal investigator for many national and international studies and trials that take place in the Rheumatology department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Dr Al-Abadi has been a consultant paediatric rheumatologist since 2013. He has trained both at Birmingham Children's Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Training in the largest and oldest paediatric rheumatology units in the UK has given him experience that spans across the wide spectrum of rare childhood rheumatic conditions. As well as managing children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Dr Al-Abadi is involved in all of specialists clinics including Juvenile Dermatomyositis, Systemic Lupus Erythmatosis, Scleroderma, Uveitis and Behcet's disease.
Dr Al-Abadi is currently the education and research lead for the department and is the principal investigator for many national and international trials that take place in the department.
As a special interest, Dr Al-Abadi developed a specialist clinic with colleagues from the genetics department for children with unexplained periodic fevers and autoinflammatory conditions. Dr Al-Abadi is interested in using Magnetic Resonance Imaging as an outcome measure in children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthitis and Juvenile Dermatomyositis.
